The Senior Director Operational Sustainability is responsible for leading and managing sustainability initiatives within BD’s operations.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Deployment: Collaborate across the network to execute BD’s operational Net Zero Glidepath and other environmental aspirations.
- Sustainability Advocacy: Act as an ambassador for sustainability, effectively communicating strategies and initiatives to stakeholders at all levels.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Inspire and lead the central Sustainable Operations team and the sustainability network worldwide to achieve targets.
- Engineering Solutions: Support engineering teams in developing solutions that significantly reduce environmental impact across manufacturing operations.
- Cultural Promotion: Cultivate a culture of sustainability within the operations by providing training, resources, and advocacy for sustainable practices throughout the integrated supply chain.
- Innovative Transformation: Lead the transformation of capabilities and processes to deliver innovative solutions and technologies that enhance sustainability performance.
- Partnership Building: Develop partnerships with suppliers, technology providers, and industry leaders to drive positive sustainability impacts.
- Trend Leadership: Stay ahead of trends in sustainability and ESG practices, identifying new opportunities for sustainable growth and innovation.
- Budget Management: Oversee related budgets, including cost analysis and forecasting, ensuring initiatives are financially viable and aligned with sustainability goals.
- Integration and Compliance: Embed sustainability into the site and business unit operating performance via publication of monthly scorecards and progress versus glidepath.
- Lead environmental data hub to ensure high quality data. Manage third-party assurance of environmental data and system that supports BD’s environmental sustainability efforts.
- Master Planning: Collaborate with Network Architecture team on network master planning.
- Ensure that all BD facilities worldwide are built and operated in accordance with recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices while minimizing its environmental impact.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering required. MS/MBA preferred.
- At least 15+ years of progressive experience in sustainability, with a minimum of 10 years in a leadership role.
- Strong communication, leadership, and strategic thinking skills are essential.
- Strong organization skills, manages competing priorities and keeps stakeholders well-informed.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and is able to influence without authority.
- Ability to translate complex technical needs/requirements into clear actions for execution.
- Demonstrated ability to iterate with agility across ideation, evaluation and action while effectively leveraging cross-functional teams.
- Ability to drive change across teams, functions, businesses.
- Ability to shift and adapt behavior based on audience.
- Broad business knowledge including but not limited to; strategic planning, operational excellent, finance, talent development.
- In depth knowledge of sustainability programs, initiatives, methodologies.
- Advanced working knowledge of facilities, utilities, and mfg processes.
- Ability to travel and manage multiple locations if necessary.
- This role is crucial for driving the organization's sustainability goals and ensuring long-term environmental and social responsibility.
