The Senior Manager, Commercial Insights & Analytics will be responsible for leading market insights – including market modeling, market forecasting, and competitive intelligence – for the US Specimen Management (SM) commercial organization.  This individual will be critical in providing fact-based insights to help drive strategic decision-making and tactical execution.  This role requires expert analytical skills and the ability to balance navigating details – with utmost attention to detail and accuracy – and bigger picture strategy.  Individuals applying for this role should have a passion for understanding customers and markets, problem-solving, and simplifying the complex.

The Senior Manager, Commercial Insights & Analytics will report to the Senior Director of Commercial Insights & Operations.  While this role does not have direct reports, this individual will be a team leader and coach to more junior team members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Market Insights Planning & Project Management:  Develop and implement the structure and plan – including methodologies, scope, and timing – for delivery of market insights deliverables for the US SM organization with the guidance of the Sr. Director of Commercial Insights & Operations.

  • Market & Market Share Reporting & Forecasting:  Lead execution of monthly/quarterly/annual market size and market share reporting by integrating third-party data (Clarivate, Strata Decision Technology, etc.), competitive intelligence, and assessment of macroeconomic factors and emerging trends.  Lead both long- and short-term market and market share forecasting in support of the annual strategic review (ASR) and budgeting activities.

  • Market & Competitive Intelligence:  Lead quantitative and qualitative market and competitive intelligence scanning.  Understand emerging industry trends, assess their potential impact on commercial operations strategies, and succinctly communicate key findings and implications to multiple partners.  Lead scenario planning activities, as appropriate.

  • Pricing Analytics:  Lead monitoring and assessment of internal and competitive pricing and profitability trends to support development of pricing and contracting strategies.  Conduct periodic and ad hoc analyses of pricing and contracting proposals to assess revenue, profitability, and market share impact.  Generate and maintain a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) performance report to track revenue change, gross profitability, price, etc., by GPO.

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM):  Lead salesforce effectiveness reporting, such as funnel execution, using Salesforce.com (SFDC) data.

  • Database & Dashboard Management:  Lead the organization and maintenance of databases of internal, competitive and market intelligence data.  Lead development and maintenance of Power BI dashboards to clearly visualize and communicate data and insights to multiple partner groups.

  • Revenue & Demand Forecasting:  Support revenue and demand forecasting for the ASR, annual budgeting, quarterly projections, and monthly sales performance analysis.

  • Supply Chain Reporting:  Support supply chain management through tracking of metrics such as Days Inventory on Hand (DIOH) and analysis of channel marketing programs.

  • Customer Insights:  Support primary market research and voice of customer (VOC) activities, such as advisory boards, as needed.

  • Continuous Improvement:  Maintain a continuous improvement approach with a goal of driving efficiency through automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence while maintaining data integrity and accuracy.

  • Collaboration:  Collaborate across the organization, including with SM Marketing & Commercial Operations team members, Sales, Finance, Supply Chain, US Revenue Operations, Global Marketing, other BD centralized resources, and other business units, etc., to ensure consistency of business practices, to enable efficiencies, and to share best practices.

  • Other:  Other duties, including ad hoc analyses, as directed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, marketing, data science, management information systems, mathematics, statistics, or a related field required.

  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience, including 5+ years of experience in business analytics, forecasting, strategic insights, commercial insights, or a related field, ideally in a downstream capacity preferred.

  • Expert proficiency and experience in analytic and quantitative modeling and data visualization using Microsoft Excel and Power BI required

  • Advanced proficiency and experience in database development, database management, and data mining using tools such as Databricks, Microsoft Access, and SQL Analysis Services.

  • Strong working knowledge and experience using Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

  • Experience using and extracting insights from large, third-party data sets (Clarivate, IQVIA, Komodo Health, Strata Decision Technology, etc.).

  • Experience applying descriptive and inferential statistical principles (variance, standard deviation, regression, etc.) to interpret sample data.

  • Experience working in the medical technology or pharmaceutical industry.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to synthesize large volumes of data and to articulate complex findings in a clear, understandable way to various stakeholders.

  • High business sense with an ability to identify key business information needs in collaboration with partners.

  • Ability to partner and engage across functions and with individuals and teams with varying familiarity of market insights data.

  • Strong communication/presentation, listening, and problem-solving skills. 

  • Ability to effectively and efficiently balance multiple deliverables to meet deadlines with high quality analyses and conclusions.

  • Ability to teach and mentor other team members.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Business Administration (MBA), Business Analytics, Data Science, or related field.

  • Working knowledge and experience with SAP Business Intelligence / Business Warehouse (SAP BI/BW).

  • Working knowledge and experience with advanced and statistical analytics tools such as SAS, SPSS, etc.

  • Working knowledge and experience of programming and coding languages such as Python, Matrix Laboratory (MATLAB), etc.

  • Experience in applying machine learning and/or artificial intelligence in data analytics.

LOCATION AND TRAVEL

The preferred location for this role is Franklin Lakes, NJ.  However, consideration may be given to other BD locations and remote work.

If the individual is based in Franklin Lakes, NJ, up to 10% travel may be required.  If the individual is based outside of Franklin Lakes, up to 25% travel may be required.
