Our Peripheral Intervention (PI) business unit offers a comprehensive range of medical products, devices and services for the treatment of peripheral arterial and venous disease, cancer detection, and end-stage renal disease and maintenance.
About the role
As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in driving innovation and delivering high-quality solutions for complex medical technology applications. Working within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll be shaping product architecture, defining system-level requirements, and driving integration and verification activities across the product lifecycle. This position combines technical leadership with hands-on problem-solving, requiring collaboration across engineering, quality, regulatory, and marketing functions. Your expertise will help shape products that meet customer needs, regulatory standards, and market expectations.
Main responsibilities will include:
Contribute to system architecture development, requirements generation, test method development, and communication of results through written reports, design reviews, and technical discussions.
Support verification and validation activities, including protocol development and execution.
Exercise sound, independent judgment and apply systems thinking, problem-solving, and troubleshooting to generate technical solutions to key problem statements.
Act as a cross-functional program representative, working closely with senior project management, regulatory, quality, marketing, and product development teams to plan deliverables, drive project direction, and ensure successful project delivery.
Develop a strong understanding of the target customer and their needs, enabling effective communication of design features and test results to stakeholders including users, customers, regulators, and marketing teams.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior colleagues.
Contribute and/lead system and sub-system integration efforts, including defect tracking, configuration management, and risk analysis.
Plan, coordinate, design, and analyze data from technical experiments at all stages of development, including design of experiments for characterization, prototype testing, and qualification.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to integrate subsystems and verify device designs.
Support risk management activities such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Assist in creating system/sub-system requirements, design specifications, and test methods for new products.
Interface with internal stakeholders such as service and manufacturing during development and product enhancement stages to ensure manufacturability and serviceability.
Utilize Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) tools to enhance product design, ensure statistical significance of testing, and drive structured concept selection.
Develop a strong understanding of the use environment and how it impacts product development.
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical Engineering, or similar discipline.
5+ years’ experience in an R&D Engineering role with a strong background in medical/diagnostics device and development.
Hands-on experience building and testing prototypes, and production-level instruments.
Experience with interdisciplinary systems, including electromechanical, software, and fluidic systems.
Proven ability to work collaboratively on complex projects with diverse disciplines.
Experience with data acquisition, analysis, and statistical approaches, such as DFSS.
Knowledge of applicable international standards (e.g., IEC 60601, ISO 13485) is preferred.
Experience interacting with target customers to understand use cases and user needs, driving data-driven decision-making.
