Position Summary

This position is a key partner in our journey to BD Excellence, acting as reference and advisor to the WW President, Surgery and will support the Surgery Leadership Team in managing the Continuous Improvement process, with emphasis on visual management, problem solving and kaizen and will assist in deploying of strategic plans, ensuring alignment through cascading Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) top-down and bottom-up.  This position is responsible for delivering and coaching BD Excellence across the global [BU] organization.

Reporting to the WW President, Surgery this position focuses on three main areas:

Driving adoption and execution of BD Excellence (Lean Principles) for the global [BU] organization with primary focus on commercial and innovation tools.

Managing continuous improvement processes, with emphasis on kaizen facilitation, tool training, and certification programs, with a focus on visual management, problem solving, and transactional process improvement 

Working with Surgery leadership and the BD Excellence Office, build sustainable continuous improvement capability across the Surgery Leadership team and commercial and innovation organizations.

Key Responsibilities

BD Excellence Strategy Development and Deployment:

  • Serve as a thought partner to Surgery leaders, supporting the adoption and deployment of BD Excellence tools and mindset across departments and regions.

  • Align and adapt Excellence capabilities to the top BU priorities to both deliver impact and demonstrate the value application of BD Excellence.

  • Establish an Excellence foundation through the BU and Platform operating models.

  • Own the deployment of BD Excellence tools with a primary focus on Commercial as a priority.

  • Partner with the BD Excellence Office Commercial Leader to deploy commercial tools and processes that will drive best-in-class sales effectiveness and a competitive commercial ecosystem

  • In partnership with the BD Excellence Office, establish certified practitioners in the BU, inclusive of Funnel Management, Growth Hub, Problem Solving, and Visual Project Management.

  • Own the monthly Surgery Business Operations review format and execution in collaboration with the President.

  • Partner with the BD Excellence Office to leverage Surgery best practices in tool development and training for increased BD Excellence adoption and execution.

  • Use bowlers, key performance indicators, and action plans to drive prioritization and rigor based on clear metrics.

  • Support Surgery Leadership in driving key initiatives through BD Excellence, including revenue growth, operational profit, control & compliance and customer experience

  • Develop and facilitate continuous improvement (Kaizen) events to achieve and sustain improvement results. 

  • Cascade the BD Excellence tools, utilizing digital training tools, certification programs, and an apprenticeship mindset to embed BD Excellence into BD’s culture.

  • Utilize best-in-class tools (Daily Visual Management, Problem Solving, Transactional Process Improvement) to drive results.

  • Promote innovation across the Surgery organization and acting as a change agent for strategic technological shifts.

Leading Change through BD Excellence initiatives:

  • Drive BD Excellence programs and initiatives to achieve long-term continuous improvement objectives.

  • Be a change champion in the deployment of BD Excellence in the Surgery organization and in the tools and mindset across the [BU] organization.

  • Challenge existing paradigms, encourage and promote internal and external best practice.

  • Drive collaboration to accept new ideas and achieve sustainable business improvements.

  • Lead digitalization and innovation efforts at organization level to improve business and operational excellence and customer experience.

Cultivate BD Excellence Culture and Capability Development:

  • Develop and grow capability through the Surgery organization to establish the fundamentals of excellence, in close collaboration with the BD Excellence office.

  • Equip the Surgery Leadership Team with BD Excellence concepts and knowledge, focusing on external and internal benchmarking.

  • Drive culture of continuous improvement by encouraging associates to identify inefficiencies and suggest improvements. Foster an environment where associates feel valued and empowered to give feedback and make change.

  • Use methodologies like Lean, Six Sigma, to structure these efforts

  • Design and implement programs or initiatives to raise awareness, adopt CI methodologies, and enhance capabilities of BD Excellence.

Education

University bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Sciences, Engineering or a related field is required.

MBA or equivalent business experience preferred.

Required Experiences

  • Significant career experience (10-12 years) in an organization where a business system is part of the culture and the core tools of visual management, problem solving, and kaizen are embedded in all aspects of the business. 

  • Significant experience and/or certification in lean tools such as in Problem Solving, Visual Management, Kaizen, and KPI development.

  • Experience in a commercial or innovation setting.

  • Advanced knowledge of Process and Lean techniques in a commercial setting.

Preferred Knowledge and Experience

  • Excellent facilitation & communication skills both in person and virtually across all levels of the organization including senior leadership.

  • Ability to gain followership and drive results

  • Ability to lead teams and drive change & results in a matrix organization where collaboration across functions and regions is essential. Ability to facilitate complex cross-functional meetings and initiatives that achieve and sustain desired outcomes.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to drive new programs and initiatives with limited direction.

  • Highly analytical, with a deep understanding and love of data

  • Proven track record of Learning Agility, taking on new projects and roles and demonstrating success within an accelerated timeframe.

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to build a coalition of support from stakeholders and successfully drive change in matrix environment with multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to translate strategic direction into execution – action orientation and drive for results coupled with a true “hands on” mindset 

  • Dynamic and engaging presence with the ability to motivate others and operate with strong personal integrity.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work closely with entire leadership team to drive change, continuous improvement, and engagement throughout the organization.

  • Excellent project management skills and ability to juggle multiple responsibilities and deadlines

  • True love of continuous improvement, measuring results, and problem solving Demonstrated success in driving business impact through CI and Kaizen initiatives, particularly in a commercial organization and under fast-changing environment.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50%.
