Job Overview:
BD Surgery aims to increase physician satisfaction and to assist hospital and surgery centers to improve outcomes and lower cost with a product portfolio that aligns with the patient’s needs. The business unit focus on preoperative and intraoperative solutions including patient preoperative skin prep, intraoperative irrigation, hemostatic agents, and sealants, as well as hernia repair mesh and fixation systems.
The Sr. Manager, Event Operations serves as a strategic and operational leader responsible for elevating team performance and ensuring execution excellence across Surgical Education. This role provides oversight of daily operations, workflow optimization, technology utilization, and financial stewardship ensuring all educational programs are delivered compliantly, efficiently, and in alignment with Medical Affairs and Surgical business priorities.
In this capacity, the Sr. Manager leads the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of professional education events, leveraging advanced knowledge of HCP engagement, health care compliance (HCC), cross‑functional collaboration, and operational best practices within a medical device environment. By streamlining processes, enhancing cross-functional coordination, and promoting innovative solutions, the Sr. Manager drives operational efficiency and supports a culture of continuous improvement.
As a people leader, the Sr. Manager provides coaching, mentorship, and development to the Professional Education Event Planning team cultivating strong execution standards, process rigor, and a high‑performance environment that enables the successful achievement of organizational goals.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead planning, coordination, and execution of all Surgical Professional Education events.
- Oversee venue selection, logistics, contracting, travel. Collaborate with the appropriate internal stakeholders on faculty management, agenda development, material preparation, and on-site execution.
- Ensure all programs support strategic priorities, HCP needs, and overall organizational goals.
- Maintain high-quality attendee experience and operational excellence across all events.
- Develop, refine, and maintain standardized processes, SOPs, templates, and operational workflows that ensure consistent execution across all programs.
- Implement continuous improvement methodologies to drive efficiency, reduce cycle time, and enhance compliance and quality.
- Oversee event documentation, program metrics, reporting, and audit readiness.
- Serve as an HCC subject matter expert related to HCP interactions and education.
- Ensure full compliance with global, regional, and local regulations governing HCP engagement, transfers of value, contracting, and reporting.
- Partner closely with Legal, Compliance, and Procurement to ensure consistent adherence to policies and regulations.
- Lead cross‑functional planning with Medical Affairs, Commercial, R&D, Marketing, and Professional Education teams to ensure alignment, resource allocation, and execution excellence.
- Support prioritization and resource planning for the Surgical Professional Education portfolio.
- Participate in enterprise initiatives and cross‑functional workstreams as a key contributor or workstream lead.
- Oversee program budgets, forecasting, and spend tracking across all education initiatives.
- Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of event expenses, vendor invoices, and HCP engagements.
- Maintain financial transparency through dashboards and regular reporting.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Professional Education planners and coordinators.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide guidance on work prioritization, stakeholder communication, and problem‑solving.
- Develop and manage Medical Affairs Operations communications including newsletters, program updates, operational reports, and stakeholder briefings.
- Conduct current-state vs. future-state assessments, workflow mapping, and root-cause analysis to drive informed decision-making.
- Partner with MA Operations leadership to scope, prioritize, and deliver continuous improvement projects that support BD Excellence goals.
- Maintain consistent and transparent communication across MA, Professional Education, and cross-functional partners.
- Create templates, SOPs, infographics, and communication toolkits to ensure clarity and alignment across teams.
- Support annual and long-range planning processes, resource modeling, and portfolio prioritization efforts.
Minimum Requirement:
·College/University Graduate required, advanced degree preferred
·8+ years’ experience of Operations, preferably in Medical Affairs in a medical device; healthcare, or medical communications agency; people management experience preferred
·Experience working in a complex, matrix environment preferred.
·Expert understanding of and commitment to Health Care Compliance related to HCP interactions.
·Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and execute multiple initiatives.
·Works independently with minimal guidance, determines own work priorities; helps team set and strategically prioritize work
·Recognized as an expert in program operations within the organization
·Experienced in program oversight, ensuring alignment of multiple programs with organizational goals
·Experience leading workstreams within team or as a key contributor to workstreams across functions or geographies

·Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.

Willing to travel frequently, 20-25% at times: U.S., Canada and international.
