GIE EDE Staff Engineer

The GIE EDE Staff Engineer is responsible for assembly design and process implementation across the Medical Segment. This role ensures component design, equipment, cost, and supply align with business expectations while providing expert engineering guidance and mentorship. The position leads planning, coordination, vendor relationships, and execution of assembly and packaging equipment development, along with support for new product introduction.

Scope

  • Supports manufacturing process technology across all medical segment sites and products.
  • Develops competitive advantage through advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Leads multiple projects involving equipment development, URS creation, vendor selection, design, FAT/SAT oversight, and procurement.

Key Responsibilities

Process Development & Equipment Design

  • Design assembly and packaging equipment and create/maintain user requirements (URS).
  • Provide cost inputs and manage equipment integration through SAT, installation, and startup.
  • Ensure equipment meets safety, quality, and operational standards.
  • Lead external suppliers on major capital projects and partner with procurement for vendor selection.
  • Drive process optimization, automation improvements, and capture performance data from existing lines.

Design & Engineering

  • Develop mechanical concepts; create or review detailed 3D/2D CAD designs.
  • Optimize equipment for cost, efficiency, changeover time, maintainability, and operator usability.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and FMEA.
  • Build/test prototypes with manufacturing teams and iterate from feedback.
  • Perform engineering analyses (stress, thermal, fluid, etc.) and ensure integration with electrical/mechanical systems.

Operational Support & Compliance

  • Support production crises (quality or supplier-related).
  • Comply with safety, GMP, ISO, and BD quality standards.
  • Carry out additional assigned tasks.

KPIs

  • Leading: Cost of production, OEE, on-time/on-budget project completion.
  • Lagging: Equipment reliability, OEE performance, number of process failures.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related engineering field.
  • 5+ years in assembly equipment design/procurement required.
  • Tooling design and SolidWorks experience preferred.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, statistical analysis (SPC), and FMEA skills.
  • GMP, ISO, Lean, and FDA-regulated environment experience preferred.
  • Travel up to 40%.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and lead full lifecycle projects.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
