The Senior Program Manager is an advanced level Core Team Leader,  with significant cross-functional management experience and capable of driving a team comprised of multiple functions, regions, and external partners. The SR PGM MGR has overall accountability for project planning, execution, and delivering timely results through to successful project completion. Project success is measured on business results, schedule, budget, and release of improved & new products or platform changes.  Program-level accountability distinguishes leadership for a portfolio of related projects, and/or multi-phased and complex project initiatives, consistent with the most market critical, challenging and/or resource intensive commitments made by the overall enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Leads an interdisciplinary team of internal and external experts utilizing a range of processes, tools and approaches.  Accountable for timely delivery, technical excellence and process effectiveness of product development activities, while ensuring the implementation and rigor of BD-UCC product development processes and design control procedures.
  • Applies extensive technical expertise & has deep knowledge of related disciplines.  Develops technical and business solutions to complex problems requiring ongoing & novel integration of ingenuity & creativity to devise solution approaches. In partnership with the platform and core team member, leads the development/remediation strategy for project(s) and programs.
  • Accountable for the creation of work breakdown structures, integrated business plans and projects requirements.  Leads the cross functional development of product architecture within each functional area;  synthesizes functional plans;  and identifies essential interdependencies to drive successful project & overall program execution.
  • Designs and leads innovation of a complex nature, working with functional resources and multifunctional teams within defined constraints.  Modifies methodologies and procedures to streamline project plans for quicker, valid results. 
  • Responsible for project team effectiveness, including:  design, data summary and interpretation;  as well as report and manuscript preparation and review adherence to applicable regulations.
  • Represents the organization as the prime contact for project contracts.  Interacts with external business leaders for significant technical issues, often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Guides the successful completion of projects by effectively organizing, coaching and motivating a highly skilled cross-functional team.
  • May perform other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Project & Program Management
  • Experience and knowledge of product development, Sustaining Engineering, and fully capable to lead all aspects of product development.
  • Cross functional aptitude for all related functions, including R&D, Quality ENG/Control, and OPS/MFG.
  • Project & Cross-Functional Leadership: possess the skills, knowledge, as well as academic and practical aptitude to engage, influence, and direct all functions involved in the development of the assigned product. Able to lead in a matrixed organization.
  • Strong technical aptitude and engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation, and influencing skills. Ability to build strong partnerships and alliances with key stakeholders at different levels within the organization.
  • Customer Orientation: demonstrate a deep understanding of internal and external customers’ needs and key objectives. Strong inter-personal and influencing skills, with customer centricity in mind.
  • Dealing with ambiguity: demonstrate ability to act in a changing & fluid environment. Effective change management skills.
  • Ability to think critically and act as a change protagonist.
  • Innovative Ideas & Approaches – ability to generate novel ideas for defining, implementing, and managing product design changes.
  • Optimized Execution and Performance – advances long-term growth while consistently meeting or exceeding near-term business performance expectations.
  • Commercial Excellence - ability to effectively apply business, financial and commercial knowledge to successfully deliver the product development outcomes.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering, post graduate degree a plus. Project Management certification a plus.
  • Minimum 7 years proven experience working in a structured product development process, including Design Control and Process Validations.
  • 5+ years of proven experience as a member of a cross-functional Core Team (Member or Leader).
  • Up to 30% travel domestic and international
  • Experience leading and managing external partnerships preferred
  • Bilingual (English & Spanish) is a plus.
