Job Description Summary

The Scientist 2 position is also key to the conduct of the stability testing program to support the approval of process and/or product design changes and as required, also supports the development and validation of analytical methodologies for incoming raw materials, in-process, and finished product release testing.

Description:

This position provides analytical chemistry support and/or remediation to all chemistry-related projects for BD products currently on the market and under development all while in observance of product development and regulatory requirements as well as internal quality procedures.  The Scientist 2 position is also key to the conduct of the stability testing program to support the approval of process and/or product design changes and as required, also supports the development and validation of analytical methodologies for incoming raw materials, in-process, and finished product release testing.

  • May lead small scale product improvement projects and coordinate work of others.

  • Under minimal supervision applies scientific knowledge and skills within respective discipline to product development projects.

  • May develop and implement experimental plans within existing procedures or established standards.

  • Capturing, documenting and communicating project related information from multiple sources.

  • Build product improvement plans and recommend different technical options.

  • Has developed knowledge and skills in own job family; still acquiring / expanding fundamental knowledge and higher-level skills.

  • Acts a resource for colleagues with less experience.

  • Assures that all aspects of their assigned areas are secure and maintained in accordance to all applicable procedural requirements.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Experience

  • Education: PHD preferred or MS/BS in Chemistry /Pharmaceutics with related science experience.

  • Experience: 2-8 years of experience in the formulation development or analysis of topical or liquid dosage forms, i.e. solutions, suspensions, emulsions, micro-emulsions, etc. is essential.

  • Experience with medical devices is helpful but not essential.

  • Knowledge/Skills: Expert knowledge and application of scientific principles and techniques.

  • Mathematical and reasoning ability. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Ability to work with colleagues and multiple clients in a professional and organized manner, and interact effectively with a variety of people from different nationalities, ethnic/cultural backgrounds, and educational levels.

  • Should be able to define problems, collect and interpret data, establish facts, draw valid scientific conclusions, and propose solutions or corrective actions.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work with limited guidance and to manage projects in a timely and effective manner.

  • Ability to reorganize and reschedule work on short notice in order to meet revised client deadlines.

  • Manage and direct project team, including identifying, directing, and delegating tasks necessary for successful regulatory project completion.

  • Experience in working within an FDA regulated environment and GMP documentation requirements.

Specialized Knowledge

  • Ability to discuss scientific strategies/results and interact with other functional areas, including Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Quality.

  • Previous experience with writing scientific protocols and reports.
