This role is pivotal in driving clinical engagement, accelerating product adoption, and integrating data, training, and technology to optimize surgical outcomes, patient safety and practitioner proficiency.The field-based medical leader will oversee a team of Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and act as the key interface between the organization and the external medical community. The role will drive leadership in ensuring that medical and scientific exchange aligns with company strategy and that insights from the field inform cross-functional business decisions.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and implement US field medical strategies that drive medical and scientific initiatives and support clinical education and procedural adoption across diverse markets.
Guide and mentor a team of MSLs to ensure effective regional engagement with healthcare professionals (HCPs), key opinion leaders (KOLs), professional societies and academic partners.
Serve as a liaison for external customers, encouraging detailed scientific conversations, responding to clinical queries, safeguarding patient well-being, and advocating for the evidence-based utilization of surgical products.
Partner with cross functional Medical Affairs teams, Sales, Marketing, Clinical Affairs, and Market Access teams to ensure aligned messaging and synchronized go-to-market execution.
Translate field insights into actionable intelligence that guides product development, training initiatives, and market strategy.
Maintain a deep understanding of the surgical landscape, current and emerging clinical practices, driven positioning, and ongoing trials/research.
Attend assigned scientific and congresses to acquire information relevant to the organization’s scientific platforms and relay this information to internal partners during debrief meetings.
Facilitates KOL (Key Opinion Leader) involvement in national, regional, and local educational forums including advisory boards, investigator meetings, educational symposia, and sponsored promotional programs.
Improve speed to proficiency for new surgical technologies in the field.
Build strong, influential relationships with thought leaders with a point of view externally and leaders with vision internally.
Deliver measurable impact on adoption rates and clinical utilization of products.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Advanced degree (MD, DO, PharmD or equivalent experience, PhD or equivalent experience) in a relevant scientific or clinical field.
Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in Medical Affairs or Field Medical roles, preferably within the medical device industry.
Proven leadership of field-based teams and demonstrated ability to drive strategic outcomes.
In-depth knowledge of surgical practices and the clinical decision-making environment.
Outstanding communication, collaboration, and presentation skills.
Willingness to travel extensively (domestically and some internationally as required up to 75%)
Strong scientific analytical reasoning skills
Ability to work on multiple complex projects in parallel and lead teams with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to bring to bear the range of available tools to investigate safety concerns.
Demonstrates ability to develop trust and integrity with peers, and others within the US and Worldwide BD Medical Affairs and Commercial organizations.
Ability to network/develop relationships with CMOs, KOLs and scientific/medical community.
Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret and explain complex clinical and scientific information.
Strong communication skills (verbal, presentation, written)
Demonstrated strong customer/client orientation.
Demonstrated project and people management.
Clinical trial experience with solid knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
