Job Description Summary
A Sr. Materials Technician understands and can discuss materials lab capabilities, terminology, and concepts. In the Materials R&D group, the Sr. Technician will be responsible for conducting testing /experiments; writing technical reports; supporting test request work flow; operation of equipment in the materials characterization and testing labs; ensure compliance with BD quality policies, support lab audits, owns calibration of equipment and overall health of the labs. The Sr. Technician understands procedures and practices through appropriate communication, training and education of sound quality assurance principles; ensure compliance with all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures.Job Description

Job Responsibilities:
May execute complex or multiple test requests
Works under minimal supervision
Experience in data interpretation to provide solutions, draw conclusions and identify trends.
May coordinate/lead test requests.
Maintains good laboratory practices (GLP) consistent with MDS product development objectives and regulatory guidelines.
Manages the chemical inventory and MSDS upkeep. Ensures timely removal of expired chemicals.
Develops protocols and procedures with limited supervision
Ability to develop fixtures as needed for testing
Generates detailed – technical reports
Supports equipment qualification (IQ, OQ) and TMV’s development, gap assessments, etc
Develops test methods, materials characterization best practices and provides training to other technicians
Is encouraged to develop/seek out new industry, company, product or technical knowledge.
Has practical knowledge of statistical analysis and test report generation.
Understands training regimen for lab procedures, preventive maintenance and calibration.
Accountable for lab operations, EHS requirements, calibration and maintencance of equipment.
May help train new associates.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of the operation of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g. Instron) and two or more materials characterization capabilities (ie. FTIR, SEM/EDS, DSC, TGA) is required.
Superior communication skills, both written and oral.
Understanding of design controls
Proficient in MS Office / Word / Excel / PowerPoint.
Knowledge of statistical analysis desirable.
Superior attention to detail
Ability to collect, record and report data accurately. Detail oriented.
Understands regulatory and quality requirements and external Regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM)
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree and minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting.
Physical Demands:
Standing while performing task.
Able to lift 30Lbs.
