Job Description Summary

Primary scope of the role involves providing remote IT and Informatics technical support to direct customers and country teams, which includes field service, local senior engineers, applications and project / solutions specialists. He/She will be expected to function as the 1st line IT technical support on all the following elements but not limited to customer server architecture, LIS configuration, implementation and installation, troubleshooting and ongoing support, updates and upgrades.

Secondary aspects of the role will include extending similar scope of support within the CASAJ region and be a part of a regional team and center of excellence for IT and Informatics tech support hub.

In addition, this role will require of the engineer to form a strong partnership with the CASAJ Region Informatics Service Specialist in all matters relating to tech escalations to Global Engineering teams as well as training and communication / dissemination of technical and related IT / engineering instructions going into the countries. He / She will also function as the primary point of contact to Lab or Hospital LIS Administrators, Networking Teams, IT Security Teams and Desktop Support Teams; to address all questions and to provide support for all matters relating to IT/LIS.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the pre-implementation and sales process by negotiating with various stake holders such as IT security teams to ensure the acceptance of the BD Informatics solutions into the customers IT environment.

  • Collaborate with all the relevant internal and external stakeholders for implementation success including:

    • Customer stakeholders from the laboratory or other institution, IT / IHIS / LIS

    • Project Manager

    • Field Service Engineers

    • Product Specialists

    • Technical Solutions Manager

    • Lab Automation Manager

  • Support the implementation & customization of BD Informatics (software) :

    • Integrating the BD Informatics solution into the customers’ IT infrastructure.

    • Interfacing with BD Diagnostics instruments.

    • Connectivity to the customer’s existing environment and third-party software systems.  i.e. HIS, LIS connectivity in hospital or lab setting.

    • Majority of hands-on time working with customers will be IT focused, working with Laboratory and Hospital IT departments to co-ordinate their provision of the server and network infrastructure required to support the BD informatics solution.

  • Support implementation activities including:

    • Engage with customer stake holders to ensure the technical IT requirements for BD Informatics products are met prior to implementation.  This includes network port activation, VLAN/LAN configuration, firewall whitelisting, AV whitelisting, Virtual Server and SQL Server provisioning.

    • Applications installation and configuration.

    • Establishing connectivity of BD Informatics with all BDIDS instruments and hospital / laboratory informatics systems.

    • Ensure redundancies are in place to maximize customer up time such as database backups, application file backups and VM snapshots.

    • Provide support for customer (HL7, ASTM and CSV) interface development with BD informatics solutions.

  • Secondary support role behind country teams to BD customers in providing services such as:

    • Remote technical assistance to customers during system down and / or system malfunction.

    • Perform software updates and upgrades as required.

    • Perform scheduled security patching as required.

    • Perform database management activities as required.

    • Escalate system defects or requests for change.

    • Training and upskilling capabilities of all CASAJ country engineering and informatics specialists.

Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Networking and Cybersecurity or closely related technical discipline.

  • Previous experience preferred in medical technology, middleware devices, PC / IT knowledge, networking and interface protocols, experience in a hospital setting supporting IT infrastructure such as servers, virtual machines and networking.

  • Previous experience deploying informatics solutions across a wide area network for large organization with multiple sites.

  • In depth knowledge of Information Systems such as:

    • Virtual machine management and deployment.

    • Advanced TCP/IP networking, VLAN and switch configuration.

    • Microsoft SQL database server administration

    • Working knowledge of current Cybersecurity standards

    • Firewall management.

    • Domain administration, Group Policy admin, DNS config, Microsoft Server OS

    • Browser configuration and internet connectivity configuration (Preferred)

    • HTTPS, SSL and TLS working knowledge. (Preferred)

    • HL7 and ASTM 1394 interfacing experience. (Preferred)

  • Possess technical skills and knowledge with communication interface protocols, cabling & networking, data stream analysis and troubleshooting

  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Visio, Excel, Project)

  • Experience in web application and API development. ASP.NET

  • Microsoft IIS application configuration, deployment and troubleshooting.

  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate experience with project management and complex change management initiatives.
