Job Description Summary

As a Staff Packaging Engineer, you will play a key role on the plant project engineering team and will focus on managing packaging projects and leading cross-functional teams to complete critical cost-improvement and sustaining projects across all packaging departments in the plant. Projects to be assigned include packaging design changes, packaging material and process changes/ improvements, implementation of cost-saving packaging technologies and regulatory graphic and label changes. As a team member you will ensure compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Creates and presents project business cases, creates project plans using work breakdown structures, uses project plan to track and monitor project tasks, requests and tracks capital budgets.

2. Handles vendor interactions, equipment specifications/design, concepts, and vendor negotiations.
3. Oversees machine purchase and installations, FAT, SAT, and site validation work.
4. Identifies and implements significant continuous improvement and cost-savings projects.
5. Provides lead in creativity around solving problems.
6. Generally able to identify solutions to problems encountered without assistance and develops and secures resource planning.
7. Seeks out new technologies for the purpose of improving current processes.
8. Works with all manufacturing areas within the plant regarding packaging improvements.
9. Works as a cross-functional team member with plant process engineers, management, vendors, consultants, and interfaces with other BD Plants, platform teams, and sales & marketing on the process
development, design, and implementation of device packaging improvements and technologies.

10. Lead teams in root cause analysis for packaging related issues as needed. Summarize team findings and recommendations to management.
10. Act as technical specialists advising how methods and concepts should be applied to manufacturing areas and expanded to plant-wide initiatives.
11. Plan and execute several projects in parallel.

12. Receive limited guidance to achieve broad objectives.
13. Represent the department on packaging expertise, including leading presentations.
14. Other duties as required to support the needs of the plant and business.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • BS degree required – Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum 5 years engineering experience in manufacturing or packaging required w/ BS; 2 years w/ MS.
