ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Keeps abreast of machine development, does modifications that are within the area of responsibility, and assists Engineering with new or modified equipment.

  • Sets ups printing press, slitter and UDI printer to run accurate labels and in such a manner as to produce quality labels.

  • Inspects the raw materials to ensure the accurate label stock and ink is used for the label to be run.

  • Performs and advises cleanup and preventative maintenance of the printing equipment in accordance with equipment manuals and vendor recommendations; refer major equipment problems to Facilitator and/or Engineering resource.

  • Makes repairs on all printing equipment; works with Maintenance, Engineering or Tool Room on major repairs.

  • Checks quality and correctness of incoming printing mats, mat materials, and has the ability to operate the mat making process.

  • Works with Engineering for efficiency improvements in equipment operations.

  • Performs cycle counting, inventory control, and reordering of printing inks, printing mat material and paper stock used in the printing of labels.

  • Performs internal scheduling of labels to be made to maintain an efficient operation with a minimum of downtime for major changeovers.

  • Maintains a proper inventory of spare parts.

  • Requisitions raw materials as required.

  • Advises press and slitter operators to produce quality labels.

  • Initiates all employees to do their jobs and follows up with additional training and instruction as required to maintain satisfactory performance. Follows safety procedures, and meets all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) to assure label printing and slitting operations, procedures, and specifications are in compliance.

  • Understands the principles of scheduling and coordinating the production of all labels and mats on a just-in-time basis to all product lines.

  • Trains newly assigned Label Printing personnel on job functions and trains all Label Printing personnel on new and revised procedures.

  • Coordinates Mark Andy maintenance visits.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complies with all local BD quality and safety regulations and policies/procedures/practices through consistent application of sound Quality Assurance principles.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

  • Observes all safety, environmental and quality system standards.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Education:

  • High school diploma preferred.

  • Technical degree preferred.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English. Ability to connect with technical personnel optimally to address mechanical type problems, etc. Ability to coordinate schedules and prioritize.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years proven mechanical ability required.

  • Previous experience in operating printing presses preferred

Physical Requirements (Level 3)

Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demands requirement are in excess of those for Light Work.

Equipment Use

Computer imaging equipment, standard dark room equipment, Mark Andy printing presses, label slitting equipment, and manual pallet mover.

Working Conditions

Inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.

Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

Supervision

  • Reports directly to Production Facilitator.

  • Has direct supervision over Label Printing and Label Slitting personnel. The Label Print Set- Up will be responsible to assign personnel to perform certain tasks to assure timely deliveries as scheduled. Label Print Set-Up will assist Production Facilitator with reviews of press operators and Label Slitting personnel. In the absence of Production Facilitator the Label Print Set-Up will report to the Production Manager.
